TaThe author of ARCHITECTS OF AN AMERICAN LANDSCAPE, Hugh Howard will revisit the lives of landscape designer Frederick Law Olmsted and architect Henry Hobson Richardson. Olmsted remains widely revered as America’s first and finest parkmaker; a pioneer environmentalist; and the force behind Manhattan’s Central Park. Richardson, the most influential architect of his era, left us Boston’s iconic Trinity Church, the Shingle Style, and the wildly popular “open plan” he conceived for family homes.
Howard will look at the two friends and collaborators and at the enduring impact of their marriage of the natural landscape with built structures.
In 2022, ARCHITECTS OF AN AMERICAN LANDSCAPE was awarded the Victorian Society in America Book Award.
