November 2018 - Holiday Door Design Demonstration
Fern Doucette - Floral Designer, NHFGC Member
It was a beautiful Fall day in Mount Washington Valley that brought out over 60 members and guests for this holiday workshop. The demonstration focused on how to create that very special hanging swag to decorate the outside of your home for various occasions.
Our Hospitality Team did a great job of warming up the crowd with all kinds of goodies in a very seasonal Thanksgiving theme. At the start of the meeting, President, Deb Holmes presented a check on behalf of the Mountain Garden Club to the North Conway Community Center in the amount of $500. She then conducted a brief business meeting which was followed by Kathy Kozeill who covered the upcoming holiday boutique workshop and sale. Debbie Bryant announced the registration process for the MGC Holiday Luncheon which will be at Stonehurst Manor on December 17th. After a short break, Fern started the demonstration and showcased three unique designs which were then raffled off to those in attendance
In this demonstration program, floral judge & designer, Fern Doucette, showed us how to make a great decoration that can be tailored to any season. Her designs focused on a unique long lasting mixture of textured evergreens designed to hang in a special outdoor location. They were accessorized with twigs, cones and nuts for a Country theme, Christmas balls & ribbons, and a Della Robia with fruit. The components may be recycled several times. The possibilities are endless and she had a few tricks to show us on how to achieve just the right look. This was a great chance to learn a new technique from a professional designer. The three designs can be seen below pictured with Fern and the lucky person who won each of the arrangements from the raffle.
