November 2016 - Beyond the Pumpkin! New Ideas for Creating a Thanksgiving Centerpiece
Carol White - Floral Designer, MGC Member

It was a beautiful Fall day in Mount Washington Valley that brought out over 60 members and guests for this holiday workshop. The workshop focused on how to create that very special Thanksgiving Centerpiece using other elements rather than a pumpkin.

Our Hospitality Team did a great job of warming up the crowd with all kinds of goodies in a very seasonal Thanksgiving theme. We had a brief business meeting which was conducted by President, Wendy McVey followed by Kathy Kozeill who covered the upcoming holiday boutique workshop and sale. Debbie Bryant and Cindy Katsapetses then announced the registration process for the MGC Holiday Luncheon which will be at Stonehurst Manor on December 19th. After a short break, Carol started the Workshop which was sold out with 52 participants. Those members who not creating a centerpiece were invited to observe the design process.

Carol was excited about this hands on workshop for members to enhance their holiday table by creating a colorful and unique centerpiece.

NO PUMPKINS PLEASE! She demonstrated how to create a design incorporating alternatives to the tired old pumpkin. Participants were asked to use their imaginations and bring along an attractive squash or other gourd to use as a container. They were to keep in mind that the size should be appropriate for a table arrangement. Fresh flowers were provided at cost. Those that participated left with a beautiful centerpiece to proudly display on their own Thanksgiving table or bring as a hostess gift. It was sure to impress their relatives and friends.
