May 2016 - Northern New England Home, Garden and Flower Show
Annual Spring Garden Display and Fundraiser -"April Showers bring May Flowers"

The Mountain Garden Club (MGC) was excited to again be an exhibitor at the Northern New England Home, Garden & Flower Show in the Craft Building at the Fryeburg Fairgrounds on May 13th through the 15th, 2016.The theme for our exhibit this year was "April Showers bring May Flowers"!

Thanks to our very creative members: Ginny Kanzler, Wendy McVey, Linda Chiacco, Amy Thompson, Donna Howland and John Cryan who set up on Wednesday, we had a wonderful Spring scene complete with boots, umbrellas and of course, lots of flowers! Our very special raffle item this year was a $500 Shopping Spree for Proven Winners Plants (courtesy of Proven Winnners) from McSherry's Nursery and Garden Center. The raffle proceeds are for the MGC Alice T. Madden Scholarship fund that awards scholarships to students in the Mount Washington Valley area who are pursuing a higher education in any of the horticultural or environmental disciplines.

We would especially like to thank McSherry's Nursery for their support and use of product for our booth display and our very heartfelt thanks goes out to Proven Winners for their generous donation of the $500 shopping spree.

We had a lot of visitors and quite a few who said they come by every year to see our displays and support the fundraiser. We had a visit from Miss Teen Washington Valley and of course we were happy to have our friend and noted radio talk show / public speaker personality Paul Parent visit our booth. Long time member, Marge Huemmler was selected to draw the winning ticket. The tickets were shaken and mixed up by three individual members and as luck (or fate) would have it - Marge drew her own name! The shock on her face was priceless (see below). She immediatly decided to donate half of the winnings back to the club to be used on the upcoming summer Community projects.

The weather held out and we had a great turnout for the raffle and we are very grateful to all those who participated in our scholarship fundraiser - hope to see you next year.
